From a distance, I witnessed its rapid breathing, its momentary reactions to sounds, and its gentle vulnerability.
Larger birds surrounded it; going about their cleaning, eating, spreading their wings, while paying no attention to the little one growing beside them.
The baby pelican stayed in one spot with its eyes closed and head bowed. It waited. With patience. For life to continue.
Its delicate presence in its own moment.
